Leighton Meester was born to a troubled family. Her mom and dad were smugglers for a Jamaican drug ring, and were arrested shortly before Leighton was born. While on bail, her mother became pregnant, and was sentenced to ten years of prison, where she was pregnant for most of her term. Leighton was born in the town of Marcos Island, Florida, and lived with her mom in a halfway house before she returned to jail to finish her sentence. Sixteen months later she was released on parole.
Leighton grew up in New York City after moving in with her aunt, gradually making a name for herself in the modeling scene there. She started featuring in photographs by Sofia Coppola and eventually made her way onto television, her first debut being a guest appearance on Law & Order. Later, she starred in Hangman's Curse and then went on to play many roles in some shows like Crossing Jordan, Entourage, and 7th Heaven. She also made an appearance on House, M.D.
Gossip Girl is, of course, the show that made Leighton Meester a celebrity, where her role as Blair Waldorf has earned her both critical and commercial success. Since then, she has become one of Hollywood's hottest actresses, and is slated to have roles in the movies Date Night alongside Steve Carell and Tina Fey, as well as many prominent spokesmodel roles for Clearasil and Reebok.
